India Energy Week 2024 | Charting a Brighter & Sustainable Global Energy Economy

Continuing on the incredible success of the 2023 edition, India Energy Week returned to Goa from 6-9 February 2024. Inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, IEW is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, and officially supported by the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI).

IWE 2024 – India’s largest and only all-encompassing energy exhibition and conference that brought together the entire energy industry, manufacturers of smart meters, and infrastructure. IWE will continue to serve as a catalyst for India’s energy transformation goals.

India Energy Week 2024 welcomed over 35,000 attendees, 400+ speakers, 80+ conference sessions, 350 exhibitors, and more than 4000 delegates from over 120 countries. The event served as an opportunity for policymakers, dignitaries, business leaders, and industry pioneers to meet, network, and share ideas for India’s energy goals.

India Energy Week 2024

Given India’s rising global stature in the energy ecosystem, IEW 2024 was a grand 4-day event hosted at the IPSHEM-ONGC Training Institute. Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs also attended multiple conferences at the event.

“In just two years, India Energy Week has become a prominent part of the global energy calendar. With the fastest growing major economy, a growing consumer base, and an inviting investment climate, we’ve carved out a niche in the energy landscape.”- Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs.

Later, he participated in a panel discussion on “Ensuring energy security for nations and industry in a VUCA world” along with Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Energy Affairs, Cabinet Minister, Qatar; Vickram Bharrat, Minister of Natural Resources, Republic of Guyana; and Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General OPEC.

During IEW 2024, various discussions took place, including ministerial debates, leadership talks, technical sessions, and roundtables. These discussions covered several important topics, such as the energy changes in the global south, developing an energy system for the future, planning for alternative fuels to provide more energy choices, and examining how local, regional, and global trends affect energy-related industrial and manufacturing processes.

Highlights of IEW 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second edition of IEW 2024 in Goa. He emphasized India’s commitment to unprecedented levels of investments in the energy and power sectors and addressed how massive government spending in the energy sector will create new opportunities in India.

PM Modi also inaugurated the integrated Sea Survival Training Centre, ONGC Institute, and participated in underwater escape exercises and a demonstration of the training center.

While participating in a conference on ‘The industry’s role in securing affordable energy access – balancing growing demand and sustainable supply,’ ONGC Chairman & MD Arun Kumar Singh said that India’s energy demand would continue to grow over the coming years and will begin to decrease after 17 to 18 years.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) released a report, ‘Indian Oil Market Outlook to 2030,’ which stated that India will become the largest source of global oil demand growth between 2024 and 2030.

Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa and ex-CEO of Niti Aayog, addressed a panel on ‘South-South Cooperation: Energy for Inclusive Growth’ and said that India would become an exporter of clean energy by 2047.

Pankaj Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, speaking at a spotlight session on ‘India – a blueprint of the energy transition for emerging economies’, said that India has emerged as a demand hub for energy, which provides arbitrage opportunities around the world for procuring natural gas.
